Jimmy Edgar is the model example of the multi-faceted modern artist. His resume seems nigh on impossible for a mere 26 year old: Warp-approved producer, avant-garde multi-instrumentalist, haute couture fashion photographer and industrial designer.
His live LED-infused performance has slayed crowds everywhere from Detroit’s prestigious Movement Festival to Berlin’s legendary Watergate.
With releases on Hotflush, Warp and !K7, Edgar is sure to provide an eclectic take of Detroit-infused future funk, drawing on influences as diverse as Kraftwerk, Prince and Egyptian Lover. The result is a fresh and palatable take on the time-honoured tropes of 80’s electronic music, replete with stone cold vocoders and vintage pitch-bent synth stabs. Needless to say, this night is a must see.
From his debut EP ‘Slow Hands’ to remixes for Grimes, Frank Ocean and Future, Ryan Hemsworth is moving up. He was also named one of Fact Magazines’s producers to watch in 2012. Set to release a brand new EP ‘Last Words’ on the back of collaborations with Main Attractionz, Haleek Maul and Mishka NYC, this is his first Australian tour and we’re more than excited to have him come party with us.
Back In March, producer Ryan Hemsworth’s mix for the website Live For the Funk singlehandedly made the beyond played-out mash-up vital again. That hour-and-then-some, kitchen-sink piling-on of music from anywhere and everywhere even took the time to sonically connects all its dots (Grimes slamming into Mariah!), featured an inspired mash-up of Three Six Mafia’s “Late Nite Tip,” and the Microphones’ “Instrumental”.

Sinjin Hawke is a #blessed individual with an ear for binding emotions within hip-hop and R&B. With an extensive output through the waves of his Soundcloud he’s a producer that is versatile to say the least, drawing his inspiration from a range of mixed sounds from mainly R&B, rap and hip-hop to the further likes of trap, garage, dancehall and juke. While eclecticism and quality don’t always go hand in hand, Hawke consistently proves that he can progressively create tracks that marry all categories of sound into a union of richly enjoyable music.

The Yamuna is the largest tributary of the Ganges River. Where it flows through Delhi, it’s estimated that 58 percent of the city’s waste gets dumped straight into the river. Millions of Indians still rely on these murky, sewage-filled waters for washing, waste disposal and drinking water.

Sonic Youth, tUnE-yArDs, Fugazi, Lou Reed, Talib Kweli Join Occupy Musicians
Photos by Lee Ranaldo
Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, and Steve Shelley, Merrill Garbus (tUnE-yArDs), Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Fugazi’s Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto, and Talib Kweli are among a long roster of artists who have signed on with Occupy Musicians, a newly launched online tool for “sound engineers, sound artists, producers, DJs, instrumentalists, composers, and lyricists” who support Occupy Wall Street and its affiliated protests.
The site serves as a public statement of solidarity with the movement, and will help put on musical performances at Occupy protest sites. It will also serve as a hub for documentation of audio, video, and writings from artists who support the 99 percent.
Other artists who have pledged their support include Tom Morello, Amanda Palmer, DJ /rupture, Dan Deacon, Parts and Labor, Kimya Dawson, Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu), Sharon Van Etten, Marc Ribot, Tyondai Braxton, Jello Biafra, Mirah, Saul Williams, Drew Daniel (Matmos), John Zorn, Dave Allen (Gang of Four), Amy Klein (ex-Titus Andronicus), Rhys Chatham, and many more.
As previously reported, Titus Andronicus and Ted Leo performed at an OWS benefit for the National Lawyer’s Guild last night in New York. And artists from Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy to Lil B have spoken in support of the movement. Jeff Mangum delivered a performance at Occupy Wall Street last month, which you can watch below.
